MHIS – The exhibition and conference hall at GUtech project in the Sultanate of Oman succesfully completed

Polensky and Zollner International Construction LLC, a member of Heberger Group, has succesfully completed its first project in the Sultanate of Oman after re-entering the construction market after 40 years since the Royal Hospital in Salalah was finalised.

The exhibition and conference hall is located at the German University of Technology Oman (GUtech) campus in Halban, Muscat. The project was designed and supervised by the award wining Hoehler + alSalmy (H+S) an architecture and engineering consultancy.

The entire exhibition hall is  consisting of 2 main structures, the outside structure of the exhibition hall,  shaped as a mashrabiya (an Arabic term for projecting window enclosed with a latticework), which is a shell of the building wrapping up the inner structure and the building itself, housing the exhibition hall. The outside structure was constructed of monolithic concrete thus being an extremely demanding for technology and workmanship due to the unregular shape of the elements, while roof was produced of steel beams encapsulated with GRC (glazed reinforced concrete) to achieve the uniform apperance with the lattice elements of walls. A tailored made, advanced technology was developed by PZIC to enable construction of the concrete shell wall lattice structure and roof design was adjusted to follow the same lattice structure principal. External areas of nearly 8,000 m2 includes several water features, special pattern inserted into the paved surfaces and special external features as corten steel planters, sundial and large concrete concrete benches.

The project has already been nominated by the Construction Week Awards panel as commercial project of the year in Oman 2016 as well as being shortlisted for the same category in the region of the GCC. The outstanding architectural design is set to become an architectural landmark and tourist destination of the Sultanate of Oman.
